The Power of Positive

Positive energy creates more positive energy.  A positive attitude is literally contagious.  There is almost no cure for it.  Except relentless negativity.  Yes, negative energy is the kryptonite.

A negative attitude is also contagious, and it spreads like wildfire.  It cannot easily be contained.  In fact, it can only be squelched by the power of positive.

So there you have it.  Positive attitudes and negative attitudes are equally powerful and equally perpetual.  They are also the direct result of a conscious choice that you or I or someone else makes at any given time.  Yes, you can choose to be positive.  It takes the same amount of energy to decide to smile and feel good as it does to begin pointing out all of the things around you that are not as perfect as you would like them to be.  And, whichever way you decide to go…all of those around you will be quick to follow.

Super HeroThat is the power that has been given to each of us.  Feeling like Superman or Superwoman yet?  Well, you should…because you are.

So, why would anyone ever choose to go the negative route?

In my mind, it is still one of life’s great mysteries.  I mean, when you consider that by making a slight change in perspective you can have an affect on how you feel and how all of those around you feel…it makes absolutely no sense to go that direction.  In fact, I think a decision like that seems rather sadistic in nature.

There is only one way to go, party people…and that way is positive.  Positive, positive, positive.

I know, I know, we all have a certain disdain for the guy or gal that walks around like a cheerleader and gets fired up at everything.  They say, ‘Woo Hoo!” a lot…no matter what they are talking about…they are never not smiling!  What is the deal with these people?  It can be pretty annoying, right?

Why?  (Maybe, just maybe…they’re right!)

Let’s just break this down a little.

What do you enjoy more…stress or peace?  Laughing or crying?  Feeling loved or feeling hated?  Being in a good mood or being in a bad mood?  These are rhetorical questions, by the way.  If you were actually pondering and answering them…read on…

one of those days“Alright, alright,” you say, “it all sounds warm and fuzzy and wonderful and all that stuff, Mike, but…sometimes I just have one of those days!”

Okay, I’ll give you that.  Sometimes we all have “one of those days”.  But come on, some of these people take that to a whole new level.  I mean a world class level.  Like, they have “one of those years” or “one of those lifetimes”.  It gets pretty crazy.  And not only that, but it creates some lasting damage.  Negative energy is like quicksand to the soul.  You may not see it coming, once you fall in you’re pretty much trapped, and it is a slow drag on you and your outlook until you are consumed and can’t escape.

But thinking about it with the whole one of those days perspective does makes a lot of sense to me.  It isn’t always so easy to make the decision to be happy.  So I wanted to share some thoughts that might help you get past that, and remain as positive as possible, no matter the situation.  And it also has magnificent staying power.

One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from Willie Mays, the former major league baseball player, he said, “It isn’t difficult to be great from time to time.  What’s difficult is to be great every day”.

That’s pretty powerful stuff.  I have shared it in more than a few training meetings or brain storming sessions over the years.  I like it because it spells it right out for each of us.  We can all have a great moment once in a while.  So, in other words, don’t think you’re all that because you were positive one day this week or you actually kind to a stranger last month.  Not impressive.  Impressive is facing the challenges of each and every day head on and saying, “I choose to be happy.  I choose to make a difference.  I choose to have a positive impact on all of  those people that I come in contact with.  I choose to lead by example.  And I choose to do it one little smile, one little act, one little moment at a time”.  That is the kind of thing that can truly begin to change the world!  Seriously.

It really is a conscious decision that you make.

SmilingIt is a matter of deciding, in your own mind, that regardless of what the circumstances are around you, and regardless of what anyone else might do or say, YOU are going to be positive and laugh and smile, and do everything within your power (remember your a super hero) to see if you can make your mojo go viral!

I’m telling you that it will absolutely transform you.  And the only way you will start to know and understand this great power, is by trying it out.  So, what are you waiting for?  If you have read this entire post then you have now become aware of a super power that is within you.  The power to be positive and to create more positive energy!  I should warn you though, since I am a responsible adult…it is addicting.  You may become so dependent on your new attitude that you can’t stop.  And can I just ask, how amazingly cool would that be?

Addicted to positive.  I really like the sound of that.
