Hi Jeannie - Thank you for your post and for your candor.
What you are saying is so important, and I can really appreciate your perspective.
I believe that we have all been conditioned to limit ourselves to varying degrees, and because of this there are many of us who have yet to reach our full potential as individuals. It is definitely possible to achieve great successes without being positive minded, but the success will never reach the level that it can, as when someone is in touch with who they truly are and are living with passion and purpose.
I will tell you that it is never too late to begin the process of believing in what YOU can achieve in this life. But it really does have to come from inside you, and it is never the result of what someone else thinks or says. We all have the ability to dream and imagine, and this is not a cosmic accident. It is full of purpose!
You are right when you say that with enough will you can start to move toward your goals. Will and determination are crucial to achievement of anything, and you are also right when you say that a positive attitude and belief in yourself can make the journey more pleasant.
It can certainly be unnerving to hear someone constantly talk about being positive without providing some practical steps to do so, or without being realistic regarding the implementation of belief in yourself in the midst of tough or negative circumstances. I am actually in the process of writing a book on this very topic!
Check out these two posts to get a little more of my perspective on this idea, and let me know what you think!

Mike, this is a lovely sentiment, and I won't say that it can't possibly work as you said - believing in oneself is wonderful, I'm sure....but...I have never accomplished anything that I thought I could do. I have achievements, and I have never thought I would reach the goals I set. I am not saying that it was easy or pleasant to live this way, but I guess it irritates me when people make the statement (which you did not) that if you think you can, you can, but if you think you can't, you can't. It certainly would make the journey more pleasant, I would think, if I truly believed I could do something...but it is discouraging to be one of those who was trained not to believe in myself, my talents, and to hear so often how important this belief in self is. I was taught not to have dreams, much less reach for them, and still I can move in their direction. I just want to stand up for those of us with that childlike faith beaten out of us, and say that with enough will, we can at least take steps towards our goals, even if they are only little ones.

Loved this so much Mike. I love the positivity that I have in my life at the moment. And as I read your blog, it made me think of when I was a child and how every time I lost a ball or something that I was looking for, I just KNEW that I would find it and I always did. Such simple faith.
Well I have that faith back again in my life. I saw The Secret 4 years ago and have never looked back. What I think and believe I want is what I get. It never fails.
Thanks so much for your uplifting blog. Enjoy your day.
