Burgers, Fries and Wide Eyes

Burgers, Fries and Wide Eyes

You know that I often write about my kids.  The reason I do so much is because they have become a constant source of inspiration for me to the many wonderful lessons of life that we miss if we only pay attention to the grown ups! I was having the dinner the other night with my family on Main Street in the quaint little city of Seal Beach, California.  We like quaint, we like beaches, and we like California...so it worked for us! Anyway, the kids were served their fabulous meals in cardboard cars that were doubling as platters.  My [...]

Teaching Kids “The Power of Positive” Part 6

Teaching Kids “The Power of Positive” Part 6

This has been a fun little series of posts for me.  It has really helped me...gosh, I hope it has helped you, too! As I have written these entries, they have reminded me of the simple yet awesome miracle of being a parent, and also how important it is to raise our children in a positive manner.  Teaching them to love themselves for who they are, and that they are worthy of great things really establishes a base for them to build on in their loves.  Helping them find their talents and gifts and being supportive of their dreams allows them [...]

Just Whine, Baby!

Just Whine, Baby!

When I hear a baby cry on an airplane, it always reminds me of how much I miss my kids when I'm traveling.  I think of their faces, their voices, their laughter, and all that wonderful stuff that make being a parent so meaningful and rewarding.  I imagine the things that we did together before I left to go on my trip, and I imagine the things we'll do together when I see them again.  It touches my emotions and really makes me thankful for all the blessings that I have as a dad.  Ahhh, the soothing sounds of the screaming baby... It [...]

Baseball Moments

Baseball Moments

This morning was pretty cool.  I mean aside from the temperature.  And yes, it still gets a little nippy in the A.M., even out here in the desert. It was cool because I got to watch my son and a bunch of other kids play baseball. It occurred to me as I was watching, that when I am real still and in the moment, life just has this sort of magic feel to it.  It was almost as if I could feel what the players were feeling as they stepped up to the plate, took a few practice hacks, and then got ready to hit against one of their buddies.  [...]

Kid Stuff

Kid Stuff

My kids really inspire me. I listen to them, and watch them, and just think that it is such a wonderful life for those who can live in a world of endless possibilities.  No limits. Now right away I can hear you thinking, "Sure Mike, it's a great life to be a kid.  No responsibility, no job, no family to take care of, no bills to pay, no stress, of course they are happy all the time!"  And I would say, well, you've got a point...but I would also ask you to consider how truly happy they are.  And consider how much happiness they [...]

Success by Association

Success by Association

I was talking with a good friend of mine named Kevin this past week and he was telling me about his plans to pursue a project that has been consuming him for some time.  He has a burning desire to help children.  Homeless kids, hungry kids, sick kids, orphanages, etc.  He really has an outstanding vision and is committed to making a difference in the world.  The only words I could think of as he told me of his plans were, "awesome, dude!"   Me, of the limited vocabulary… First off, I thought it was incredible that he was basically [...]
