Extraordinary Self Control

Let me take a shot at empowering you.

One of the worst feelings in life is the feeling that you have no control over it.

Maybe that’s how you feel sometimes.  If you do, you’re not alone.  For many people, events and circumstances dictate their mood, attitude, and action (or inaction), and they truly glide through life like a kite tossed around by the wind.  Literally living each day at the mercy of the world around them.

They don’t have to.  And, if you feel like that, neither do you.

I like to say that just about anyone can follow momentum.  However, extraordinary people create it!

You are an extraordinary person.  Whether or not you’re currently experiencing the magnitude of that is based primarily on your mindset.  Like I mentioned in a post called Real Self Help,  you have to first sell yourself on the idea that you are already extraordinary, and then you just need to go about living each day from that perspective.

Empowerment comes from personal responsibility.

YOU are responsible for your life.

If you will take that responsibility and run with it, you can begin to create your own momentum and you will also begin to experience the true miracle of your life and the joy that comes from having control over your destiny.

If you shun that responsibility, then you are actually giving up control of your life.  And once you’ve given up control, it really is sort of a crap shoot.

So here comes the empowering part…

The first thing you need to understand is that you are a unique being.  There is no one else who is exactly like you in the entire universe.  And as such, you have talents and abilities that are unique to you.  You have gifts that you can offer the rest of us extraordinary cats, too!

You need to get in touch with those.

There are things that you are truly passionate about and the sooner you can identify those and start pursuing them, the sooner you will be living a life much more in line with all of those wonderful daydreams you have had throughout the years.

The life of you dreams.  It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s possible!

It all starts with believing in yourself.  You have to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you are exceptional.  You have to believe that you are here for a purpose.  A real important one.  And that purpose is not to be kicked around or to live your life at the mercy of the attitude the people in the office around you  have.  Your emotions cannot be based on the latest news report on TV.

YOU have the ability to control your mindset, your belief system and all of your feelings.

You just have to exercise your power to do so.

The best part about a bad day is that you don’t have to choose to have one.  How about that?  Yes, you have a choice!

You can react to life any way that you choose.  That’s called freedom.  And you have it!  You need to know that.

Are you feeling powerful yet?

You should.  You are extraordinary.  Go live like it!

You’ll Achieve Whatever You Believe

Nobody knows you quite like you know you.

And nobody believes you like you believe yourself.

So how are you really doing in life and what do you think about it?

When I talk to people about their potential, I often bring up the fact that they know far more about what they are capable of than I do.  I can guess and I can talk to them about goals for achievement, but I don’t have the ability to look inside and see what truly drives and motivates them or what thoughts and beliefs they possess about their own capacity for success.  And neither does anyone else.

Your success in all areas of your life will ultimately be determined by what you believe you are capable of.

Henry Ford was so right on the money when he said, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way, you are right”.

It’s become cliche, for sure.  And I speak to a lot of folks who don’t really see it as being that simple.  But I truly believe that success is a mindset.  And if you can believe in something with an unwavering faith, you can accomplish it.

The thing is, most of the time, you aren’t really doing a very good job of selling to yourself.  None of us do.

Most of the time we think about the reasons why we can’t do something.  We draw on past experiences and put together the laundry list for why we won’t be able to achieve our desire.  It’s natural.

And like I said earlier, we definitely believe ourselves!

Look, if you are scared to step out of your comfort zone, and you convince yourself that ultimate failure and embarrassment will be the result of your effort, you are not going to try.  And you are not going to succeed.

On the flip side, if you will see your fear as an imaginary obstacle that is holding you back from ultimate achievement and you convince yourself that there is nothing that can stop you…guess what?  Nothing can.

As far as your life right now, only you can determine if you are living up to your potential, and only know if you are living the life of your dreams.  Well, I guess the rest of us might have an inkling….if you’re not rolling down main street in your new Benz and hanging out in the luxury suite to watch the Lakers and Celtics play…then you’re probably not living the abundant life you wish for.

Not that a Mercedes and tickets to the Lakers game are everyone’s idea of abundance…but you get where I’m going.

If you’re not living how you would like, let me ask you a real serious question: Why not?

What is it that is holding you back?

Only you know the real answer to that question and the sooner you are honest with yourself, the better.

It may be fear of the unknown.  It may be fear of failure.  It may be fear of success.

It may be the whole idea of doing something that you are not familiar with.

It may be a limiting belief system which kicks into gear every time you start to imagine doing something extraordinary.

Whatever the case, you need to let yourself know that you are totally capable of accomplishing anything you put your mind to!  I could tell you that (as I have before) but it is much more powerful when it comes from you!

Get honest with yourself and get serious with yourself.  You can do anything you want to do in this life.  It all starts with believing that you can.

Your Life’s Reflection

From time to time I like to share poems on here and I found one the other day that I really liked.  It’s called “Life’s Mirror” by Madeline Bridges.

Like most poems it can really speak to you if you read it and let the words soak in.  Sometimes I think we read poems just to make sure the lines rhyme, and we end up taking very little away from the moment.

One of the things I have said to people quite often over the years is that whenever you have an opportunity…be it while sitting through a meeting,  listening during a lecture or presentation, a sermon, motivational seminar or when reading a poem…try to take something from it.  Just find one thing you can take from the experience and apply to your life.  If you’ll embrace that mindset, you will be amazed at how much you can learn and grow in a few weeks, a few months, and by the end of the year.

So I encourage you to not just read the following, but to really find and take from it that one principle that you can immediately adapt in order to make your life better.  It’s in there.  Find it and prosper…

Life’s Mirror

There are loyal hearts, there are spirits brave,

There are souls that are pure and true,

Then give the world the best you have,

And the best will come back to you.

Give love, and love to your life will flow,

A strength in your utmost need,

Have faith, and a score of hearts will show

Their faith in your word and deed.

Give truth, and your gift will be paid in kind,

And honor will honor meet,

And a smile that is sweet will surely find

A smile that is just as sweet.

Give pity and sorrow to those who mourn,

You will gather in flowers again

The scattered seeds from your thoughts outborne,

Though the sowing seemed but vain.

For life is the mirror of king and slave,

‘Tis just what we are and do;

Then give to the world the best you have,

And the best will come back to you.
