Lighten Up!

How about a good laugh?  Seriously, when was the last time you really laughed?  When I say really laughed I mean cut loose like a little kid.  The kind of crazy, almost uncontrollable laughter that breaks down your inhibitions and transports you back to childhood.  It’s the best.

Not only do I highly recommend it, but I’m going to insist that you start doing it.

I’m telling you, it’s one of the greatest things you can do for yourself at any given moment of any given day.  Just let it go.  Not only does it feel good…it is good!

And look, don’t think you’re too advanced as a soul or something to take some time to laugh.  Instead, heed the words of the incomparable Willy Wonka, when he says, “A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men”.  That’s Gene Wilder, in the original, by the way…

Seriously, we’ve all become a bit too stuffy.  We either get too stressed out to take the time to laugh, or we consider ourselves to be above the fray, so to speak.  It’s really a bummer that we grind it out every day and never take the time to cut it loose a little.

I mean, for example, if you’re a guy, is there anything funnier than flatulence humor?  I even laughed as I wrote that.  The reason I was thinking of it, is because I was making those noises with my 10 year old son the other day, and I literally could not stop laughing.   It was just as funny to me now, as it was when I was a kid (I know…you’re either going with me on this one or not…so I’ll stop).

I will acknowledge that you ladies don’t seem to have the same passion that us guys do for things like the whoopie cushion, and I think that’s good!  It really provides that much needed balance to all of our lives.  But there is still plenty to laugh about in our everyday world.  And all of us  just have to take the time to find it and then enjoy it.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, then you know I’m all about trying to help you find ways to get to the greatest version of yourself.  And I also like to point you in directions where I think you’ll benefit the most, be it a book, a website, or some other resource.  Having said that, I’m about to direct you somewhere that is a far cry from Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, or Eckhart Tolle, but I truly believe with all of my heart that it can be just as valuable, if not more valuable to you.  Especially if you aren’t currently making time in your life to have fun and laugh!

I was lucky enough to run across a bunch of guys who do comedy for a living this past year, right out here in sunny southern California.  I also had the great pleasure of getting to meet them all, and I can tell you that they are quality dudes who are doing what they truly love, and that’s really what it’s all about.  My apologies to the writers of the “hokie pokie”…

Many times I’ve said that following your heart is the key to unlocking your dreams, and it’s absolutely true.  These guys I’m talking about are an outstanding example of this principle.

I will tell you that there’s a bit of colorful language in this skit I want you to check out…so be advised.  But I think you will appreciate the spirit with which it was created, and if you’ve ever worked for a corporation or have been subject to endure a board room meeting, you’ll really dig it.  Honestly, you may even pick up some sweet dance moves, so pay attention.  In any event, it’s a funny video and I want to share it with you in the hopes that it might at least get you to crack a smile.  Best case scenario, you will laugh until you cry.  Go see Corporate Song and Dance created by the Good Neighbor guys.  And I want to direct you to their official site, since I think you’ll find some other stuff there that will make you laugh out loud (there’s no way I was gonna write “LOL”, people!)  Some of it is edgy, but that sort of comes with the territory when you’re trying to explore all of the funny aspects of our existence.  Here’s the link: GoodNeighborStuff.

Alright, now get out of here and go laugh a little…no wait, go laugh a lot!

YES..we are filled with a world of huge Fuddy Duddys. Laughter and humor is a great way to release stress, learning things is easier, and on the whole, life is better with laughter.
And hugs. Hugs are good too.
