Lace ‘Em Up

Just Do ItI love shoe commercials.

Okay, I know you’re laughing, but I’m serious.  They are truly some of the most inspiring 30 seconds of my life, taking place in those wonderful moments after somebody calls timeout in the game that I’m watching on TV.  They do tend to sneak up on me (no pun intended) but they also carry some really powerful messages.

Now look, I’m not talking about the “buy one, get one half-off sale” at Payless Shoes commercials…I’m talking about Nike and Adidas type stuff.  The stuff that lights a fire inside of you…that really gets you going…makes you want to rise up and do something awesome.  Like Nike’s “Just Do It”.  I still think that is one of the greatest campaign slogans ever.  It’s so simple, but so inspiring.  And it just gets right up in your face…JUST DO IT…I mean how does anything ever get done?  Well, unless somebody does it, it doesn’t get done.  And if you want to do something worthy…what are you waiting for?  Just do it!  Ha ha…I love it!

And how about the Adidas campaign  “Impossible is Nothing”.  That’s some more inspirational stuff.  Because you know what?  Nothing is impossible!  Okay, I’m getting goose bumps.  How about you?  No?  Well, okay, maybe I take my shoe commercials too seriously…

But I do think the messages are outstanding.  And I think anything that challenges you or me is good.

Challenges are good because they test us, and they force us to make decisions.  When faced with a challenge we can do anything from absolutely nothing to get out there and change the world. We have an almost unlimited number of choices.  And without question, when we come through challenges we are stronger and wiser, if we apply the things that we learn.  It really is how we grow as human beings.  As mothers and fathers, as sisters and brothers, as friends, as co-workers, as people.

Here are some greats quotes relating to challenges:

“Challenges are what makes life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful” – Joshua J. Marine

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

and, one of my absolute favorites:

“Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still” – Chinese proverb

Great stuff, right?

So, this week, I decided to take a challenge head on.  I’m pretty sure it was after I saw a shoe commercial…

My friend Connie Green, who happens to be a really cool person, issued the “30 Day Power Blogging Challenge” to any and all takers.  It sounded like a great challenge that would stir up a lot of fun with some of us who like to write, create some new friendships, allow us to read some really good material, and push us to see if we could go to a place that that we haven’t been before.  Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

I check out Connie’s website often, and as I sat there reading about the challenge, I thought about it…I wanted to do it…I wasn’t sure if I could…I looked down at my Nikes…and well, you can guess the rest…

So, here I go.  Just gonna do it!

I will post at least 30 blogs to the site between now and January 9th.  That may mean several days with multiple posts, but whatever it takes, I am going to get it done.

BloggingIt will be tough, but I think it will also a blast.

Now, I want this thing to be pretty interactive, too.  So, if you have grown accustom to my typical 3 posts every 30 days, you’ll need to readjust a bit.  You can subscribe to the RSS feed on the site, or at the very least, check back more often.  And I want you to leave comments on the things that you read.  Because here’s the thing – I don’t just want to post the 30 blogs for the sake of achieving the goal, I really want this stuff to be meaningful to you.  So let me know what you think, let me know what helps, let me know what you would like me to write about…all that stuff.  And together, we’ll make this happen!
