Today has been a truly wonderful day, and it all started with a little gratefulness.
I learned a long time ago that the best way to greet any morning is with a thankful spirit. And even though I have applied this many times, it still amazes me every time I do.
When you are thankful for your life and the blessings you have, and you start the day by getting lost in that feeling, life has a miraculous way of delivering back to you even more things to be thankful for throughout your day. It is one of the greatest things you will ever do in your lifetime. And the amazing part is that you have the opportunity to experience it every single morning when you open your eyes!
Here was my deal this morning…
It was sprinkling rain outside the bedroom window, and the sun was shining through the blinds. It seemed like another glorious and scenic day in the desert was beginning to bloom! I was experiencing a real feeling of thankfulness to be in such a beautiful part of the country and right on cue, the Universe delivered my little girl to me. She came racing into the room, jumped up in the bed and snuggled right up next to me, nice and tight. I could not feel anything but gratitude. I am so blessed, I thought, to have this little angel beside me. The trickling water provided perfect background ambiance as the feeling grew and I started to think about little things that mean so much to me. I won’t repeat them all because some of them seem trivial, but if you have ever started to literally count your blessings, you can relate to what I’m saying.
I can tell you that the day has done nothing but get better for me. I’ve played catch with my son, spent quality time talking to my wife, visited with an old friend who happened to stop by today, listened to my daughter play the piano, wrestled with the dog, and each time have just lost myself in the particular moment. Awesome stuff!
But enough about me…
Here are some great quotes about gratefulness for you to think about. I hope that you enjoy them and that they speak to you in some real important way.
“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures” – Thornton Wilder
“Appreciation is the highest form of prayer, for it acknowledges the presence of good wherever you shine the light of your thankful thought” – Alan Cohen
“If the only prayer you said in your whole life was ‘thank you’, that would suffice” – Meister Eckhart
“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others” – Marcus Cicero
“You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you” – Sarah Ban Breathnach
