Late Bloomer

Late Bloomer

Have you ever been up really late at night and come up with what you thought was an absolutely brilliant idea?  Something you were going to do or say or start? Then, in the morning, you wondered how you could ever have imagined such a thing, so you decide not to pursue it? Come on, I can't be the only one! Well, whether I am or not, I'm going to write my thoughts about it... As best I can tell, those late night sessions when we are operating in a state that we might typically refer to as delirium, are really inspiration at it's [...]

Raise Them Up

Raise Them Up

I was cruising around the internet today, reading some wonderful poems and I stumbled across something that I had not read before.  I thought it was pretty amazing, as it caused me to feel several emotions as I was reading.  It was written by author Diane Loomans. It's about raising a child, but also about living a meaningful life. A few months ago, I wrote a six-part series on teaching kids the power of positive.  If you didn't get a chance to read those, and would like to, please check them out and feel free to leave your [...]

Don’t Just Think About it…Do It!

Don’t Just Think About it…Do It!

The power of the present moment.  It's an amazing and wonderful thing.  If you can harness it, and direct it, you can achieve anything you want.  Learning to operate in the "now" is probably the single most liberating and powerful experience that you can have on this planet. Nothing gets done unless it is acted upon "now".  Think about it and you'll understand it. The only time you can ever do anything is right now.  In fact, your life is really a long series of "right now" moments.  If you can learn this and take advantage of it, [...]

Why Would You Fake It?

Why Would You Fake It?

You've probably heard the phrase "fake it until you make it" before.  If not, it is commonly used by someone in the work place describing the idea that if you aren't quite ready for the job you're about to take on, perhaps via promotion, just pretend that you are, and learn as you go.  You dress the part, play the role, talk the talk and the thinking is that eventually you will become the person you are pretending to be.  Sounds pretty adventurous, doesn't it? In theory, it has some pretty strong merits. After all, if you're in growth [...]

It Has To Be You

It Has To Be You

No matter what you do in life, be yourself.  Be real.  Be genuine. There is absolutely no substitute for authenticity. One of the biggest mistakes that anyone can make is trying to find happiness or success in being like someone else.  The reason that it won't work for you to the degree that it could is because you will never be totally vested in the process until you're in tune with your own purpose.  In other words, unless you're being YOU, you can't possibly achieve your best life. I'm not suggesting that emulating someone who [...]

Note to Self

Note to Self

Here's some great advice for you if you are setting out to accomplish anything worthy in your life: Write down your goals!  Get them on paper!  Keep them where you can see them and read them every single day! Why is this such good advice, you ask? Well, there is something extremely powerful about a note that you write to yourself. It's almost as if the written word is some sort of a binding moral contract that you sign between your head and your heart.  When you outline your objectives and put them on paper, it let's your self [...]

Childish Behavior

Childish Behavior

There is nothing more exciting in life than a child's enthusiasm. I'm sure you've witnessed the way that children absolutely devour each moment of their lives.  If you have, then you must have been impressed.   Hopefully you were also little inspired. How many times have you been sitting somewhere watching kids run around and play, and heard an adult say, "I wish I had their energy". I think that's such a funny thing to say because the truth of the matter is we do have their energy.  We all have their energy.  It's the same [...]

Comfortably Numb

Comfortably Numb

Aristotle said, "we are what we repeatedly do".  He said a lot of stuff, but you know, that was one of his more famous quotes. I totally agree with him, but I think he could have added "or don't do" to the end of that statement. Maybe it wouldn't have sounded quite as profound or meaningful if he had added my little addendum, but I think I'm right.  As much as our lives are the result of the great habits that we have, we are also subject to suffering through the consequences of the bad ones. Indeed, we are also what we repeatedly [...]

30 Blogs, One More Time

30 Blogs, One More Time

Have you ever taken on a task that you thought was maybe just a little bit of a stretch for you and that you might not be able to accomplish? It may have even been something that you thought would be good for you, but you just weren't convinced it could be done.  But you did it anyway!  Have you ever done that? If you have, then you know it can teach you a thing or two about persistence, and that you can learn a little about yourself as well. I decided to tackle such an endeavor about three months ago when I enthusiastically entered [...]

You Wanna Be a Miracle?

You Wanna Be a Miracle?

I'm a big fan of Jim Carrey.  I'm also a big fan of Morgan Freeman.  They are two of my favorite actors, and for different reasons. Jim Carrey is incredibly talented and always manages to make me laugh.  He has even inspired me to develop an Ace Ventura persona  that I break into around my kids sometimes.  "Alrighty, then!" Morgan Freeman is just a great actor.  And perhaps the king of the movie narrators.  I once joked that if a movie were ever made about my life, I would want Morgan Freeman to narrate it. In any event, I [...]

El Credo de Optimista

El Credo de Optimista

Life is pretty amazing. There are so many ways for each of us to become inspired each day if we will only take the time to be aware of ourselves and observe the miracles that take place all around us. Some other great ways to become inspired are to listen to a moving piece of music, recite a great quote or read a powerful poem.  Music can transport us for sure and words have an amazing transformative power over our souls. I was thinking about posting a particular poem that has inspired me, and I certainly hope that it will do the [...]
